Overview

Job Title: Sr. Product Owner - Consumer Facing Web

Salary: $120K - $150K/yr d.o.e.

Location: Remote OK - If living within 31 miles of Tustin, CA or Austin, TX will need to be able to work a hybrid schedule

 

Summary: The Senior Product Owner partners with a Product Manager to create and prioritize User Stories that align with the Epics and Features on a Product Roadmap. While the Product Manager leans more strategic in nature, the Senior Product Owner is execution focused and drives delivery. As a key member of the Scrum Team, the Senior Product Owner articulates functional needs and acceptance criteria. The Senior Product Owner has a strong foundation in underlying technologies and cloud services, acting as subject matter experts for the products they build.

This role is focused on our Consumer Facing Web product; experience in this domain is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned product(s), understanding upstream and downstream systems, personas, and dependencies.
  • Translate product vision and roadmap into executable work by writing clear, well-prioritized user stories and/or features, dependencies and delivery plans.
  • Own the health and grooming of a complex product backlog across multiple teams or systems, ensuring readiness of 2–3 sprints worth of work at any given time.
  • Lead prioritization of product work across multiple stakeholders, balancing business goals, technical dependencies, and engineering capacity.
  • Set clear sprint goals in collaboration with Engineering and Scrum Master; support team focus, ownership, and accountability throughout development.
  • Use deep product knowledge to proactively resolve blockers, triage production issues, and respond to changing business or technical constraints.
  • Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives; ensure delivery stays on track with product vision and definition of done.
  • Foster strong alignment with architects and engineering leaders to ensure stories align with technical feasibility and scalable system design.
  • Advocate for user needs by incorporating feedback from behavioral data, research, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Actively contributes to release planning, stakeholder demos, and communication of delivery progress.
  • Collaborate with other Product Owners and Product Managers to align work across interdependent teams.
  • Mentor other Product Owners and promote continuous improvement across product and agile practices.
  • Continuously grow in domain expertise and support the product team in identifying opportunities for process and system improvements.
  • May support early-stage product management tasks (e.g., market research, MVP definition) for new or emerging product areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience in a Product Owner role or equivalent
  • Strong hands-on experience working in Agile development environments (Scrum, SAFe, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), APIs, integrations, and system architecture.
  • Strong technical and delivery acumen with the ability to collaborate effectively with architects and engineers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and complex product interdependencies.
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write effective user stories, acceptance criteria, and drive high-quality delivery across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in mentoring other product owners or contributing to agile process maturity is highly desirable.
  • Mortgage technology or financial services industry experience is preferred.
