We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating residential mortgage loan files to determine borrower eligibility in accordance with company, investor, and regulatory guidelines. This position requires advanced knowledge of underwriting practices, sound judgment, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Salary range: $90k to $120k doe + full time benefints including 401k
Location: Remote
Review and underwrite FHA, VA, Conventional, USDA, and Jumbo loan files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with investor and regulatory guidelines
Analyze credit reports, income documentation, asset statements, title reports, appraisals, and purchase agreements
Ensure loans meet internal quality standards and investor overlays
Document and communicate underwriting decisions clearly, with condition rationales when applicable
Collaborate with loan officers, processors, and other team members to resolve underwriting issues and clear conditions
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of agency/investor guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, VA, USDA) and regulatory requirements (TRID, QM/ATR, etc.)
Provide mentorship and support to junior underwriters and processing staff
Meet or exceed established turn-time and quality metrics
Participate in quality control and internal audit initiatives as needed
Minimum 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience
DE (Direct Endorsement) and/or LAPP/SAR certifications strongly preferred
Extensive knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines
Proficiency with Encompass or similar LOS platforms
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage a high-volume pipeline
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and make confident, well-reasoned decisions
