Overview

Position:  Payroll Specialist

Comp:  Up to $25/hr d.o.e.

PST Time Zone preferred

Location: Remote OK - If living within 31 miles of Tustin, CA or Austin, TX will need to be able to work a hybrid schedule

Summary: The Payroll Specialist will provide support to the Payroll department with a variety of general payroll operations as needed and directed. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing the payroll communications, responding to general questions, calling employees as needed and escalating more complex concerns.  The Payroll Specialist will also assist the department in the issuing of final checks, timesheet corrections and other payroll related support duties. The Payroll Specialist will also assist with reporting, designing custom reports and facilitating delivery of reports as requested.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manages the Payroll email box daily, keeping to SLA’s for response time, answering questions from employees, calling employees as needed and escalating complex concerns to the Payroll Manager.
  • Assist the team in process final checks and helping to correct timesheet errors in the Dayforce system.
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Determines payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Maintains Payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes and recommendations for improvement of department processes.

Qualifications

Job Competencies:

  • 2 years min experience in a Payroll Admin or other related role.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal; Must be comfortable speaking to all levels of employees (entry through executive) on one-on-one calls or in group meetings.
  • Must have strong competency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll system
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
  • Experience using Dayforce Payroll Software
  • Must have accuracy and extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and open to change/pivot quickly

Education/Experience:

2+ years Payroll experience

Associate’s degree or relevant certification is a plus
