Overview

Position: Fair Lending Compliance Officer

 

Pay: starting at 185K 

 

Location: US- Remote

 

Position Summary:

The Fair Lending Compliance Officer will be responsible for managing the Fair Lending Program to ensure the organization is operating in compliance with fair lending, anti-predatory and unfair, deceptive and abusive laws and regulations. This role will provide ongoing practical advice, counsel, and advocacy, including: primary responsibility for all credit-related regulatory compliance policies and procedures; interpreting current and proposed laws and regulations as applicable to all aspects of the product lifecycle, customer treatment, models and data use, channel strategy, and marketing; identification and appropriate mitigation of risk, including supervision and evaluation of testing and monitoring and internal reviews; and supporting company responses to government agency examinations and investigations, enforcement actions, private complaints, and litigation.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  1. Manages NAF’s overall Fair Lending program, including fair servicing and compliance with laws and regulations relating to predatory, unfair, deceptive and abusive acts and practices (“UDAAP”).
  2. Performs statistical analyses of NAF’s lending practices, including analyzing redlining risks based on locations of NAF branch offices.
  3. Monitors data and findings from NAF’s HMDA program.
  4. Presents to NAF’s Fair Lending Committee semi-annually on the state of NAF’s Fair Lending program and the results of fair lending analyses.
  5. Reviews policies, processes, and internal controls to determine risk exposure around underwriting, pricing, steering, and other high risk areas to ensure compliance with fair lending and UDAAP laws and regulations and interagency examination procedures.
  6. Assesses and investigates the fair lending and UDAAP risks posed by businesses units’ data and practices. Responds and provides assistance to business unit questions and situations on fair lending and UDAAP issues.
  7. Stays informed of changes in fair lending and UDAAP laws and regulations, industry and regulatory trends, and best practices in compliance risk management, fair lending and UDAAP.
  8. Coordinates and integrates fair lending monitoring results with internal control risk assessment to provide a holistic view of fair lending exposure.
  9. Oversees fair lending and UDAAP training program for both the origination and loan servicing businesses.
  10. Monitors fair lending and UDAAP complaints and trends.
  11. Assists with special compliance projects as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  1. Advanced knowledge and experience in statistical analysis and/or algorithmic models, particularly in the fair lending/anti-bias context
  2. In-depth knowledge of state and federal fair lending and UDAAP laws, guidelines, and industry trends, including Equal Credit Opportunity Act (REG B); Truth in Lending Act (REG Z); Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (REG C); Real Estate Settlement Procedure Act (RESPA & REG X); Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA); Flood Insurance Regulation; Fair Lending Act; Fair Housing Act; CFPB UDAAP guidelines, State fair lending and UDAAP lending laws, Fannie Mae/ Freddie Mac/FHA/VA/USDA guidelines and the loan process from underwriting through servicing
  3. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; executive presence when dealing with high-level business leaders
  4. Excellent issue spotting, risk assessment, research, and problem-solving/analytical skills; ability to quickly identify key issues, separate the noise, and provide practical advice and solutions
  5. Ability to work closely with lawyers, compliance and risk professionals, etc., in a collegial and cooperative manner
  6. Excellent organizational/project management skills and attention to detail
  7. Initiative and strong work ethic (self-starter); ability to work independently
  8. Client focused, emphasis on prompt delivery of quality services
  9. Flexibility and adaptability when faced with changing conditions or priorities in a fast-paced environment
  10. Strong attention to detail, highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects at once
  11. Proficient in Microsoft Office software as well as software used in fair lending analysis, such as Questsoft/NContracts and Fair Lending Magic.
  12. Working knowledge of the lending function from product development to implementation. Audit, underwriting and secondary market documentation knowledge is required.

Desired Education/Experience:

  1. 4+ years of regulatory compliance experience or as a regulatory examiner with emphasis in fair lending and experience in Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data analysis
  2. 1 + years in a direct supervisor position
  3. 1 + years in a project management position
  4. Advanced degree in math, statistics or a related field, or JD, preferred

Work Authorization: Must be able to verify identity and employment eligibility to work in the U.S.
